Trudy Coxe, Chief Executive Officer of The Preservation Society of Newport County, will join us to speak on the familial and architectural ties, formed in the Gilded Age, that connect the cities of Newport and Philadelphia to the present day. Trudy will delve into the human stories behind the architects and owners of our most beautiful historic homes, and the cultural significance of the structures they created. Special attention will be paid to Philadelphia architect (and Union League member) Horace Trumbauer, whose houses attest to the attraction of Newport to some of Philadelphia’s wealthiest families.
Trudy will also discuss the Preservation Society of Newport County, its origins, and its recent strides in both the preservation of its architectural treasures and ongoing efforts to interpret their linked histories with diverse public audiences. She will share her analysis of the future of historic preservation, and the strategic evolution necessary to ensure that our stories, and the buildings that house them, will be properly safeguarded for generations to come.
Note: The Union League’s dress code is business casual—for men: jacket, collared shirt, and slacks, for women, something comparable.
