Kick off the fall season with artist Patrick Connors as we enjoy a presentation and workshop on linear perspective, an art whose subject manner is light and whose medium is space.
The “most delightful and noble art” of linear perspective has long benefited artists of diverse disciplines in the pursuit of making their imaginations manifest in paintings, sculpture, drawings, and architecture. In an age of camera-conditioned aesthetics and computer-generated imagery, perspective offers an alternative experience to those derived from machine or technology, one directly based on human experience. Learn some of the basic concepts and techniques that combine to create depth in an image, discuss topics such as foreshortening and value, and acquire new tools that can be used to construct a scene in linear perspective.
Patrick Connors is an easel painter who lives and works primarily in Philadelphia. A graduate of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the University of Pennsylvania, his artwork is exhibited internationally and featured in private and public collections. He has lectured on linear perspective at Yale University, Philadelphia Art Museum, New York Academy of Art, Graduate Program; and the ICAA: Manhattan and Rome programs.
